The Challenge
Don Carlos had spent an entire year sharing the process behind a daily art practice with his audience—showing up every day through the highs, the lows, and everything happening around him.
When the project was finally complete, a single social post didn’t feel big enough. This was more than a finished body of work; it was a major milestone in his journey as an artist, and the launch of a book that brought the entire year together.
We wanted to tell the story behind the work: what it means to keep showing up everyday and hear directly from the artist, in his own words, unscripted and honest. The goal was to capture the year honestly while creating something that could support the book launch and create an entry point into longform content.
The Outcome
We successfully used the milestone to launch Don Carlos’s long-form YouTube presence with a piece that combined his artwork, personal story, and the events that shaped his year—from the Dodgers winning the World Series to the loss of Chewy, his longtime furry companion who had been by his side since the early days of his life as a serious artist.
The result was something unlike anything he had previously shared: a more complete portrait of the artist behind the work. The video was embraced by his art community, friends, family, and existing audience, while giving the book and the project a natural platform to live beyond social.
